1. "Transparent sound-reinforcement" is the science and art of amplifying sound, making it louder, without adding distortion or coloration. return

2. "High-fidelity" ("hi-fi", less than 1% THD) sound-reinforcement equipment needs relatively high amplifier-power per speaker for low distortion, when compared to lesser, lower-powered, cheaper PA equipment. Higher power is necessary for good transient-response and to avoid "clipping". Good transient-response helps an audience understand public-speakers better and enjoy live- or recorded-music more. "Clipping"--or driving an amplifier too hard--along with prematurely wearing out or burning up amps and speakers--ruins vocals, especially harmonies. return

3. "PA" can mean either "Power Amplifier" equipment or "Public Address" equipment. return
